Looking back at my favorite moments of 2013

On my old blog, the pre-transition one, I used to enjoy doing end of the year posts so I figured why not continue the tradition here with a list of my favorite parts of 2013! *Walt Disney World and the Goofy Challenge* 2013 started out much like the last four years did, with an awesome trip to Disney World with my wife! This year, we ran the Goofy Challenge (half marathon one day and a marathon the next) for the second year in a row and it was every bit as awesome and magical as it’s ever been. [Read More]

Planning out my 2014 race calendar

Ever since I ran the Richmond Marathon two and a half weeks ago, I can’t stop thinking about marathons six, seven, and beyond. I had a glimmer of hope I could run the Rehoboth Beach Marathon this weekend (just for fun!), but my recovery from Richmond wasn’t quite as speedy as I had hoped. I could do it, but I don’t think it’s a smart idea. So now, I’m looking onward to 2014 and starting to put together my race plans. [Read More]

Richmond Marathon - 3:44:55

Marathon number five, the Richmond Marathon is complete! I feel like I always say this after races, but I really, really liked this race! Pre-race stuff Flat Amy is ready to go! We made the drive down to Richmond on Friday morning in just a hair under five hours so we made pretty good time! We went straight to the race expo and, in a pretty ridiculous coincidence, Dori, who had left just a little before us but had a further drive than us, got there at the same time we did! [Read More]

Richmond Marathon training wrap-up and race goals

With just three days to go until the 2013 Richmond Marathon, there’s not much left to do to prepare for race day. Training has been done for a week and a half, carbo-loading starts today, my bags are packed, and I’m mentally and physically ready for this thing! Training wrap-up Injecting myself with the hormone goodness While I stuck with the same 16-week training plan I did for the 2012 Chicago Marathon, things were a lot different this time. [Read More]

I will run my spring marathon to raise money in support of defending California's School Success and Opportunity Act

And again, I’m blogging on a day I planned to take off… The Richmond Marathon is still a few days away and there’s a _small_ chance I’m also going to run the Rehoboth Beach Marathon in three weeks as well, but I’m already thinking about my spring marathon. I don’t know yet what the race will be, but I’m hoping to qualify for Boston there. Maybe I’ll keep it at home and run the New Jersey Marathon? [Read More]

How I prepare for race day in the weeks leading up to a marathon

Marathon training might as well be a full time job. It takes over your whole life and sucks all your time. Even when you’re not running, it can dictate so many other things in your life: what you eat, how many hours your sleep, how much you drink, etc. Most marathon training plans are somewhere 16-18 weeks, but we all know it’s really much longer than that, you don’t start from nothing. Using the gym while trans

A story broke yesterday of a transgender woman being banned from using the women’s locker room at an LA Fitness in California after the gym learned she was transgender. While this is clear discrimination, it’s unfortunately not at all surprising to me. I’m sure the gym has absolutely no issue with treating trans women exactly the same as all their other clients when it comes to monthly fees, but when it comes to actually providing the same services and facilities, they just can’t seem to see us the same way.
