What I learned from running the worst race of my life

As if I haven’t spoken about this enough on Twitter and in my race recap, I had an awful marathon last Sunday. This was, by far, the worst race I’ve ever run. However, it’s in these moments of failure where we truly learn the most. There are probably thousands of clichés I could drop in here, but that doesn’t make this any less true of a statement. And here’s the thing, I walked away from this race even more in love with the marathon and running than ever before. [Read More]

Why I love the marathon

image from http://baysixusa.com/ For almost three years now, when asked what my favorite distance to race is, my answer has been the marathon. I don’t even have to think about it. I love this distance. I love it because it’s hard. I love it because it not only demands your respect, but it requires your respect. The marathon can and will kick your ass. [Read More]

New Jersey Marathon - 3:48:25

Some races are great, some are just good, and some are bad. Then, there are the ones that are just straight up terrible, even comically bad. That was my day at the New Jersey Marathon yesterday. I’m not even going to beat around the bush here, this was the worst race I’ve ever run, performance wise. Some days are just off days and some races are just off races. It happens. [Read More]

Cheering at the Boston Marathon

Even though I wasn’t running the Boston Marathon this year, I wanted to be up here for it. I wanted to be here and support my amazing community. Luckily, work decided to give me a reason to head up to our corporate office in Massachusetts this week and offered for me to come up early to watch the marathon. We got up here on Saturday and spent the weekend hanging out around the city and even took a trip to the expo. [Read More]

I now proudly and forever display being a transgender marathoner on my wrist

By the time I got to the last two years of high school, most of people in my main circle of friends were all about tattoos. I guess that’s normal when you spend most of your time with the punk and indie underground kids. I had a few tattoos that I wanted too, but I never went through with anything. Throughout high school, college, and my post college years, I was stopped from getting tattoos by one single question, “if I was a woman, would I want this on my body? [Read More]

New Jersey Marathon training starts today!

In sixteen weeks (from yesterday), I’ll be running my sixth marathon! I’m pretty excited about it, I’ll be running the New Jersey Marathon so I’ll be right at home! Training starts today! My plan for the NJ Marathon is a very serious Boston qualifying attempt. My required BQ time is 3:35, but I’m going to shoot for 3:30 to give myself a little breathing room. That comes out to an 8:01 min/mile pace which is 34 seconds/mile faster than I ran in Richmond. [Read More]

Richmond Marathon - 3:44:55

Marathon number five, the Richmond Marathon is complete! I feel like I always say this after races, but I really, really liked this race! Pre-race stuff Flat Amy is ready to go! We made the drive down to Richmond on Friday morning in just a hair under five hours so we made pretty good time! We went straight to the race expo and, in a pretty ridiculous coincidence, Dori, who had left just a little before us but had a further drive than us, got there at the same time we did! [Read More]
