Oiselle #FlyStyle photo shoot

For a little change of pace here, I thought I’d do a little photography post. I said photography was something I wanted to get back into this year, so I need to make good on that, right? My wife is a runner on the Oiselle Team, so she asked me to take some photos of her getting her #FlyStyle on after her run today. Her idea was actually just her laying in the snow, but we ended up with this little set below as we were walking back to the house. [Read More]

One quarter. Three months. Ninety days.

This is actually quite bonkers to me when I think about it, but I’ve been living out and openly transgender for three months. As they say, I’m full time, but I still prefer calling it “being live.” Or, even more simply, “living.” Three months isn’t really a long time, but it’s hard to believe it’s even been that long. It still feels like something that just happened last week. [Read More]

New Jersey Marathon training update: Week 3

This is a big hunk of frozen sweat stuck to the back of my neck It’s just week three of training for the New Jersey Marathon and I’m already over it. As much as I actually enjoy the cold and winter, I’ve had enough. Subzero temperatures with heavy winds, snowstorm after snowstorm, freezing rain, ice. I’ve run through it all. New Jersey Marathon training update: Weeks 1 and 2

Two weeks down, fourteen more to go! I’m one eighth of the way through training for the New Jersey Marathon! Weeks one and two were originally written in my training plan as the being the same, but being that I didn’t feel like my mileage was quite up to par yet going into week one, I made a few modifications. I cut the lengths of a few of the runs to drop the mileage by four for the week. [Read More]

New Jersey Marathon training starts today!

In sixteen weeks (from yesterday), I’ll be running my sixth marathon! I’m pretty excited about it, I’ll be running the New Jersey Marathon so I’ll be right at home! Training starts today! My plan for the NJ Marathon is a very serious Boston qualifying attempt. My required BQ time is 3:35, but I’m going to shoot for 3:30 to give myself a little breathing room. That comes out to an 8:01 min/mile pace which is 34 seconds/mile faster than I ran in Richmond. [Read More]

First snowboarding of the 2014 season

View from the intersection of Silver Fox and Fox Tail I took up snowboarding five years ago, around the same time I started to get serious about running. It was a few months before my wife and I started dating and I was willing to try just about anything as I searched for happiness within myself. Unfortunately, I was still rather far from finding the happiness I was looking for, but snowboarding was a nice distraction from the self-hate. [Read More]
